Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed is launching a summer reading program featuring our newly published title “Amari’s Adventure”. The reading club is a new program for all children ages birth to eight years of age. The club will work with targeted programs in the city of Atlanta by distributing books at no cost to children and holding reading programs throughout the city this summer. The launch event will be held at The Children’s Museum of Atlanta starting at 10:30 am on June 1, 2013.
Amari’s Adventure takes her to many major landmarks in the city of Atlanta as she begins to realize her own ability to impact the lives of others, regardless of her age and size. Written by The Rollins Center for Language & Literacy at the Atlanta Speech School and Illustrated by Maurice W. Jackson, Jr., this exciting book is structured to help parents utilize the READ strategy to help parents engage children in reading. Developed by the Atlanta Speech School the READ strategy is a research -based approach parents can use to read books with their children. By using the READ strategy, parents can engage children in conversation, nurture, critical thinking, build language and vocabulary, and help children realize the power of their own voices.
